EN// CONCEPT/ “SÚBER” is the artwork that wants to live! The materials that make up the canva’s body constitute the ancient epidermis of the tree. They tell a story, their age and through organic forms they reveal their face. Resulting from his journey through the seasons and their respective inclement weather, it’s features are now consecutively molded by time. Assuming that tree barks already have defined shapes and directions, the portrait composition was naturally built by the artist through the process of interpreting these same shapes, as if the right direction was revealed by the material itself, like an appeal to come to life! Inspired by the organicism present in its details, the creative and sculptural potential of “SÚBER” (the outer bark of a tree trunk) is recognized. The plastic artist Maria De La Salete’s spiritual journey begins by collecting various pieces of tree bark that had already left the tree trunks. Seeking to represent the character's memory that is evident in the portrait, starting from the mentioned earlier primordial material, other elements of different materials representative of the subject's craft and life experiences, were organically emerging. Fabrics and materials for footwear were interpreted and used to create and form its personality. Giving the portrait its identity. In this assumption, the spiritual connection between the artist and his work is born. Pursuing the signs of her creativity, La Sallette embarks on a path that seems to reveal itself on the canvas as it adds new directions and structure. Unlike a free drawing, in this case the artist works with predefined forms. The formal limitations of each material require work and mutual respect between the artwork and the artist during its creation process. With the aim of drawing the paths on the map, created and traveled by the artist himself. In search for resolution, “SÚBER” manifests the urge to inhabit new and different spaces, it wants to feel the light, the cold and everything it felt like the tree bark that belonged to a certain tree. It wants to cross the dense dimensional boundary’s of the cosmos, to communicate with the receiver. From the observer's point of view, his interaction with “SÚBER” is changeable. His interpretations of the portrait change as he walks through it… Creating this way, the need of movement to be entirely understood. Thus confirming the existence of movement created by the screen, which allows us to immerse ourselves in the fantastic premise, where there is energy, there is life! PLANNING// “SÚBER” it’s a mobile canvas that gains new perspectives at each exhibition, due to its relationship with the surrounding space or new materials. The assumption for Waking Life is for the artwork to visit 'every corner' of the festival with the possibility of creating a different dynamic between day and night. During the day due to its relationship with the natural landscape, during the night with the use of rotating light points that will create different shadows and contrasts both in the work and in the surrounding space. The desire for the work to come to life is reflected in the festival, when visiting each different place with different experiences and with a distinct presence in each environment. Inducing a broader interpretation of both the spirit of the festival and the work itself.

I work as an artist and illustrator. studied in Bremen, Leipzig und Münster for Design and illustration. I spray paint on woodinstallations or wallls. I want to create a tall creature from the book I actually illustrate. Its a fantasy figure from another reality. And it is bringing creativity, strength another perspective to the people. Its colorful and has long wavy hair with esmall yes on it. you see a sketch below. I can create some other figures. I have also trees and fantasy flowers from this planet I created. I'm looking forward to work with you. I also actually create performance artwork. But its very new. I did a Danceworkshop for 3 month last year in Berlin. Since that I want to become a performace-artist as well. So if I can maybe create something until July, I would be happy to show it during the festival, maybe like a walking act.

I need spray paint to realize this creature and the little word. It can also become a 3 -d installation I can imagine
What are the times you will need me for the Installation. And where would I stay? Is there a safe and dry place for my laptop/Ipad/ Technical equipment? Best regards Hope to hear from you Elisa Wolke

Sankofa is a performance that articulates, using textiles and installation, issues inherent to the body as a vehicle for liberation, and to santori, a state of understanding, total presence and simultaneous absence of the mind. This ritual was woven for the community in order to explore the possibilities of textiles as a potential invitation to pause. It encourages the transmutation of the individualistic ego through the creation of a moment of collective experience, which underlines the need to link human beings to their ancestry, community and space. In a society oriented solely and exclusively to production, certain behavioral standards are imposed with a focus on the efficiency and functionality of the individual as a cog in the gear of the productivity system. The truth is that, due to this model, there is enormous repression, to the point where it becomes unnecessary to process the feeling. It is urgent to conserve energetic, physical and emotional integrity, and stopping is the starting point for this conservation of the Being. Denominated by an adinkra element, written by the Akan peoples of West Africa, it symbolizes a conscious return to origins, in an attempt to link body and space. The materials used were steel, burlap, old glass socks, stuffing, fabric, plastic sleeve, raw factory cloth remains, wire, donated clothing, electrical cables, nets and fishing ropes. The whole performance is based on the act of fetching people from the audience to be rolled up with various parts of the installation, which, due to their different materials, evoke different sensations.

This performance installation was developed to be presented in an auditorium, but it can be adapted to the outside. It is made up of three individual steel structures, whose silhouette resembles that of a house - square at the bottom and triangular at the top - and which were joined by bars at the top and sides. This installation was 2,5mx 2m , with the respective parts joined together, it was also covered by a plastic sleeve ceiling, using sound and light to become an immersive space. Taking advantage of the festival context, the three individual structures could be arranged separately, without a roof and in a strategic space, so that the spectator could see the reconnection space used in the previous performance. A transport requirement would be required from Cacémlisboa to the festival, as well as help to move the structure within the festival.
Scenographic work and contact with materials interests me immensely. In case there is no possibility of framing this installation in the festival, I would like to add that I am available to be present providing any necessary help in the construction of the stage/scenery or for decoration.

Just one more puff is the end of a little unpleasant memory I had, consequence of a police control at the entrance of Waking Life in 2019. I was one of the unlucky few who got caught with a little drugs (thanky you doggy). The judge in Portoalegre considered my 9gr of weed as trafficking (no shit) and I was sentenced with a 600 euro fine or 40 hours community service. I somehow wanted to make something usefull out of this kinda useless community service and got in contact with Manas (@manasaferspace ) and was invited to assist the meetings of the collective in Lisbon. They are group of women and girls, non binary and queer, using drugs, doing sex work and almost all of them are in precarious housing conditions (squatting, living in tents, housing first...) About two years ago they started to unite and fight against the insitutional violence they often face, strive for stronger public policies, to strengthen grassroots movements and feminist self-managed safe spaces, to fight against the war on drugs and violence, aggression or sexual abuse they face. Together with them, I started to use (analog) photography as a social participatory practice to tell their story. The result is a collage of photographs taken by me and them. We are opening the exhibition on 8 march in Lisbon. In attachment you can find the invitation. at the expo, Manas are also presenting their Fanzine, with poetry and texts written by them and drawings by Emma Andreetti. I would like to present this collaborative project with them, showing photography, their poetry and drawings and eventually them playing their favorite tunes and sharing their testimonies in a cosy corner of the festial.

“Home - Between a shelter and a cage”, is a philosophical installation that aims to deconstruct the romantic idea of home and adapt it to a modern world and progressive ways of thinking. It divides the experience of home-making into five dimensions, ranging from a macro perspective of the physical structure to the metaphysical perspective of the mind, and uses visuals and stories to communicate the complexity of safety in modern times and the intricacies and limitations of comfort. The Installation consists mostly of photography from around the world and text representing the ideas of the greatest thinkers of our time. So far I presented the exhibition in Germany, Belgium, and Austria in 2021 and 2022. This year it will also show in the Enchanted festival in the UK, Sweden, and Iceland. I am curious to bring this workshop to "waking life" and believe it can speak to the unique and sometimes nomadic characteristics of its participants. As a part of the installation, I also conduct workshops for up to 12 participants that go deeper into the philosophy of home and I am happy to offer a few of those during the festival.

Since the exhibition is made of mostly photography, I have been installing it so far in gallery spaces. Clean walls would be ideal for showing the art but if there are no such, I'm happy to brainstorm other solutions. Video work is also available as a part of the exhibition if there is any equipment for that.

Imagine a club that only exists in a certain place at a certain moment, for a few weeks or just a night, before changing shape and location again. Temporary Pleasure is both a floating club space, and an ephemeral architecture studio creating temporary spatial experiences at the intersection of architecture, nightlife, music, arts & culture. We ran our first project in Barcelona in November 2021, inviting a group of workshop participants to create a new club space together in a disused warehouse in just 5 days. At the end of the workshop the resulting space was opened to the public and brought to life with 10 hours of installations, DJ sets and performances. In 2022, we won us the Irish Arts Council ‘Engaging with Architecture’ and ‘Clubbing Council’ prizes to create an ephemeral club in Dublin last summer. We would be excited to work with Waking Life to create an ephemeral club space for this years edition.

This is an interactive installation. The paintings change as lights of different colors are pointing at them. Some parts appear and some desappear. A sensor is detecting human presence, as soon as somebody gets close to the installation a light sequence starts. In the video the installation is in the shape of a room, but it can be done interpretating and adapting to any space at the festival. The paintings can be on any kind of support. I would also create a specific concept based on the festival experience.

This installation is a surrealistic enviroment created by wooden palms, abstract shapes and a flying manta. It has been built for the frst time as stage decoration for the festival Bucht der Träumer in Germany. I would remake it in a different way, smaller, recreating a site specific installation. I could introduce other animals and shapes. Unfortunately I can upload only one picture, so it's possible to see nicely the manta but not the vegetation.

This art installation for a festival will be a unique fusion of nature and art. It will feature felt-covered tree branches that are already present in the area, creating a unique visual experience. The felt will be of different colors and textures, creating a vibrant display of color and texture. The felt will be attached to the tree branches using a non-toxic adhesive, ensuring that the tree will remain safe and untouched. This art installation will create a whimsical, dream-like feel that will draw in festival attendees. It will also be an interactive art installation, as viewers will be encouraged to touch and interact with the felt-covered branches. This art installation will be sure to create a lasting impression on the festival attendees and make the area feel like a magical, interactive art space.

My work is a reflection of how I wish to see the world- colourful and queer. the characters I make are bingeing and playful. Most of the time it is ambiguous as to what gender they are, this is exactly what I’m going for. I do not see the world in the binary. Recently I have started making wooden cut outs of this non binary dancing characters. I want to make an installation for Waking Life with these silly characters- maybe as a pathway or something to discover in nature, or even by a stage! I am open to all options. I am a very fast painter and worker and can make a bunch of these characters for an installation! Below is a picture of two cutouts I was commissioned to do for the entryway of an artist residency space.

I would like to create an installation of 5 other worldly paintings that will stand 2 meters tall 1 meter wide. They will stand next to each other in a row. They will represent our connection to nature and our individual perceptions of our surroundings and how we are connected to it. I have attached an example of one of the paintings of the installation. Previously exhibited at De School, Garage Noord, Ruigoord, NeurIPS and Traumburg Festival among others, this unique experience is designed to create a dynamic and harmonious musical dialogue between visitors and an artificial intelligence trained for melody generation and continuation. Its interface consists of immaterial, but visible and pluckable strings, creating a virtual harp-like experience. Visitors can input their own melodic creations, and the machine will respond with musical reactions and impose possible conversation directions, leading to a continuous and evolving musical discourse. The physical installation features 7 individually moveable lasers combined with freely placeable mirrors to create site-specific light beam patterns. These lasers are paired with lidar sensors to measure long- and fine-grained distances, allowing the lasers to act as tangible strings. The installation is highly adaptable, making it suitable for a range of settings.

A full description of the installation per day with images, videos and specifications can be found here: https://samanthamillows.com/not-so-much-free-time Endless Rhythm Waking Life Installation Application by Not so much free time Not so much free time is a Berlin based duo of visual artists working on the fields of photography, video, installation and experimental forms of image. Samantha Millows (Bogotá, Colombia) is a graphic designer, and multidiciplinary visual artist working on the fields of music, culture and art. Valentin Wedde (Berlin, Germany) is a photographer, Artist and researcher working increasingly on gentrification and the culture of electronic music. Endless Rhythm Is not about music never stopping, is about a constant vibration of million of frequencies resonating together with nature and music. Frequencies connecting, combining, changing. A chain of sysnestesic effects. Transformation of movement. Infinite transitions. A whole existence. Multiple universes. The installation consists of a video projection in layers of traslucid fabric, that create a tridimensional effect in which every layer change the effect of the next one. Every night the installation changes into a new concept, or idea of topics in abstract video representations. We have created the first 3 nights already as an example:

Specs: Time and location: Night time. Ideally in the woods but since is possible to rain, an indoor location would be better, we don’t know the space yet so we can’t be certain about the place the installation will take, but we have the following measures: H: 4 m B: 3 to 4 m L: 6 m Materials: For the fabric installation we have everything. If we don’t have the possibility of access to a projector through the festival organiser, we need to know in advance since we are based in Berlin, so we can organize one in Portugal.

I make light installations with my team of 5. We were in contact with you last year and you were very interested in an installation. Unfortunately, it didn't come to fruition because you didn't have enough financial resources but we talked about this year already and hopefully this time it will work. I have several ideas and could offer different types of installations, depending on the budget and how much I can spend on materials. Generally I would prefer to do an installation that stands on its own and is not part of a stage. I would also be super interested in planning an interactive installation. I would like to send you some projects from the last months. Unfortunately I couldnt sent only videos with 4mb and it seems like just one?!?
Depends on what you like, but we would need definitely electricity and a couple of plugs and cables. Maybe some metal workers?!

Hello, This is a work I have recently started developing and so the images and videos im attaching are of the very basic state of I at the moment. The piece is a sort of a curtain which I would like to install in the forest/between trees. It is a kinetic work made of wooden sticks and magnets, connected to a rotating metal bar, which creates a subtle movement, added to it is also the sound of the sticks touching eachother while moving. As I imagine it it will appear as a kind of a Vail, made of diagonal wooden sticks in between the trees themselves, visually will communicate with the woods. I'd like to connect the motor to solar energy so that it will be a stand alone piece and could work constantly. I am not sure about it yet but I'm considering also adding an element of reflection for it to be visually more attractive at night as well, although simple spotlights might just do the work. As I mentioned, it is a work in progress and I would like to develop it further until the festival and in location as well and so would love to have if possible also aroun ten days in location for building it up. Thanks for concidering my proposal Liav

Portal is an installation that explores light as a material through spatial audiovisual compositions. Using optical illusions created by materialised projected light combined with a spatial sound system, the installation transforms its surrounding into a hypnotising environment for the subconscious mind, stimulating the senses. The work challenges our perception of space, investigating the connection between the space around us and the space within ourselves.

For each location we like to look together with the festival for the best result given the environment, depth, number of visitors, etc If we work indoors we need: LIGHT: -6K lumen - laser projector (no lcd) (NO HD or more required) -1x Water based hazer AUDIO: - 4 x top 8 inch or more (active or passive) - Sub 12 inch or 15 inch (active or passive) For outside we made our own smoketube-system to get extra depth to the light.
We would be very pleased to show our work on waking life and to be part of this story. We believe our work fits very well on the location.

I am a muralist and spray paint graffiti artist, i paint anything from intuitive geometric mandalas, abstract bold compositions to earthy trees and psychedelic visionary art or cartoons I have been recommended to apply for Waking life by Barbara whom i currently live with (she creates the structures at Waking life) I have collaborated with her on a paint project.. I applied a few weeks ago with the knowledge that Waking life would appreciate more psychedelic art styles but later heard that the approach this year is more clean lines and simple for the overall artistic creative energy. i briefly spoke to Lucas about my application. I am getting in touch with an application again to see whether there is still any availability to do live art, or a painting class, or help set up/decorate at the festival.

I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Israel - Jerusalem & Europe (Germany, Portugal). I have been sculpting and doing stage and festival design for the 10 years non-stop under the name OCD Designs. I have many design ideas and things I want to do and I think I fit your festival very much, also got a recommendation from Lahav and back in the days from Adva who was a DJ at your festival. I also build the mainstage for ZNA last 2 editions with ZARAZ from South Africa. I will send some references and vibes - I understood there is a stage that still needs to be designed I would like to have a talk and thought process with you and send you a design :) Also an installation is a great option of course :)
